️🏜️ Desert spots 🛣️ Road trip spotsTimanfaya National Park is a national park on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The park covers an area of over 50 square kilometers and was founded in 1974. The park is best known for its volcanic landscapes, which were created by the eruptions of the volcano Montaña Blanca in the 18th century.
Some things to keep in mind when visiting Timanfaya National Park:
- wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking
- bring sunscreen and a hat as it can get very hot
- carry water with you as there are no places to buy water inside the park
- be prepared for changing weather conditions as the park is located in a desert
- respect the park rules and regulations in order to protect the environment
Some might say that hiking through the volcanic landscapes is the best way to experience the park, while others might prefer to go on a camel safari or take a bus tour of the area.
There are 25 volcanoes in Timanfaya National Park but only one if still active.
Also, you have to book online if you want to enjoy a guided tour around the volcan. Booking your entrance in the park will save you time.
Indeed, the guided tours are very popular and they have few availabilities. Book your spot(s) in advance, so you have a chance to walk around with the guide. Keep it simple, book a tour and don't worry about waiting times.
You can't walk around Timanfaya National Park by yourself but guided hikes are free (included in your entrance fee).
